A Vintage Players Classic... SOLAR CITY!
1977 Gottlieb

A true vintage Gottlieb players classic... SOLAR CITY!  This game was produced in 1977 by Gottlieb, creator of the most popular mechanical pinball machines on the planet! Solar City is the two-player version of the mega-hit El Dorado.  The two games are nearly identical in playfield layout, rule sets and cabinet design.  The only significant difference is the title of the game and the fact that it is a two player machine.  El Dorado games in this condition sell for more than double the price of this game.  If you love the playfield, but don't want to spend thousands more, this game delivers in every possible way!  Gottlieb did this many times with their popular games to make a slightly different model to get the vending companies to buy more machines that were basically the same as their older games.  The Solar City/El Dorado playfield is considered to be one of the greatest playfields from the mechanical era and Solar City was one of the very last mechanical games to be produced by Gottlieb.  Shortly after 1976, Gottlieb and all other pinball manufacturers started switching over to digital technology, forever changing the sights, sounds and gameplay of pinball machines as we knew them.  This game is incredibly popular due to the classic Gottlieb drop-target style gameplay along with the ever-popular outer space theme.  This game was created when Gottlieb was the king of the arcades, bowling alleys and corner stores.  No one could hold a candle to a Gottlieb mechanical pinball machine, they were simply the king of the hill!  Solar City/El Dorado was one of Gottlieb's best selling mechanical pinball machines of all time and is generally close to the top of any mechanical pinball machine collectors favorite game lists.  Anyone that played pinball machines in the 70's has seen and played El Dorado or Solar City.  It's a timeless classic and one of our most requested games.

You'll love the old-fashioned chime box sounds that take you back to a simpler time in all of our lives.  A time when pinball was the king of the arcade and boardwalk.  A time before those confounded video games came about!  This game has many of the classic features that made Gottlieb great.  Everyone's favorite feature on this game is the huge bank of drop targets at the top of the field, flanked by mini-flippers to aid your target-blasting ability.  There is yet another set of drop-targets in the lower field for a total of FIFTEEN targets!  The targets are not only used to score immediate points...  for every target you can drop, at the end of your ball, you'll get a 1,000 point bonus.  Drop 10 targets, get 10,000 bonus points!  On your last ball, the bonus is DOUBLED!  Drop all 15 targets on the last ball and get 30,000 bonus points!  That's not all... drop all of the lower targets and the upper left rollover is lit for an EXTRA BALL.  Drop all of the upper targets and the center right rollovers are lit for an EXTRA BALL and SPECIALS!  There's more...  the other elements on the playfield like pop-bumpers, slingshots, stationary targets and rollovers give this playfield a classic playing vintage feel that will keep you entertained and challenged for hours at a time. Most pinball enthusiasts agree that Gottlieb made the best playing single-level playfield designs and this game is one of the very best. The classic and family-friendly theme goes great in any home gameroom!
